Modest Swimwear Solutions

...finally, a modest swimsuit pattern!

Do you accept overseas orders?

We are happy to take any order... from any where!  Just include your mailing address (this can be any type of address: PO, FPO, APO, MPO, etc.)

Right now we want to encourage overseas orders, so we have made our shipping fees for patterns the same for all over the world!

Can I sell swimsuits made from your patterns?

These patterns are for individual home use only and cannot be used for making swimsuits to sell.   No part of the patterns may be reproduced or transmitted in any form or by any means electronic or mechanical including photocopying, or by any information storage and retrieval system, or used for commercial or manufacturing purposes.

Does the skirt fly up or float?

The skirt is more of an A-line skirt, so it doesn't have the tendency to flip up or twirl like a fuller, gathered skirt would. If the waistline fits somewhat snuggly (though a tight fit isn't necessary) the swimsuit will stay in place and not shift around or come up. The leggings are high rise in the waistline. The skirt floats just slightly underneath the water, but tends to move with the body and stay contained and modest. The skirt is very light-weight and doesn't hinder movement--even for active swimming! Our swimsuits have the look and coverage of a one-piece, yet the comfort and flexibility of a two-piece!

Can I place my order by phone?

We prefer that all orders be placed through the website or by email crystal@modest-swimwear.net because we are not able to accept credit card payments over the phone right now.  However, you can use your credit card to send payment!  We accept echecks or credit card payment through PayPal (and you won't need a PayPal account to do that!)  It is quick, easy and secure.  But if you still would rather not pay online, an International Money Order (made out to my name: Crystal Huyben) can be used to send payment.

How long does it take you to complete a custom swimsuit order?

Once we receive an order and payment, we start working on the swimsuit right away and usually can have it completed in a a few days, or up to a week and a half!  (If you are placing an order for a few swimsuits, it shouldn't take that much longer.)  If you do need the swimsuit by a certain date, let us know, and we would be happy to do whatever we can to have it to you as soon as possible!

--However, May to August are our busiest months and please be patient with us if it takes longer!  We do our best to have all orders shipped as soon as possible.  If you need the swimsuit by a certain date please consider choosing  faster shipping!--

Are these swimsuits easy to sew if I decide to buy the pattern?

Good news!   Sewing your own swimsuit isn't just for the accomplished seamstress!  If you have basic sewing knowledge and a willingness to try something new, you can do it yourself!  We have had many customers tell us how surprised they were to find out how fast and simple it was to make a swimsuit from the pattern--even though they had never worked with swimwear before.  The fabric is just slipperier, so pin the seams well and go slowly.  We are always happy to answer any questions you may have while sewing!

Do I need a serger to sew these swimsuits?

No.  Although a serger can be used, it definitely isn't necessary!  Just a regular sewing machine with a zig-zag stitch works great!  You don't need to stretch the seams as you sew.  Just guide them with your hand without stretching the fabric.  As long as a zig-zag (or similar) stitch is used, the seams will be able to stretch with the bathing suit while swimming to prevent the seams breaking.  100% Polyester thread is recommended, because it has a slight "stretch" to it and will be less likely to break.

What type of needle and thread will I need to sew these swimsuits?

A ball point needle size 9 or 11 is best for stretchy fabrics.  A good quality 100% Polyester thread is recommended because it is slightly stretchy which will help prevent the seams breaking.  Cotton thread is not a good choice.

I placed a swimsuit order, but haven't received my invoice yet. Where is it?

The invoice is a PayPal invoice (though you won't need a PayPal account to use this invoice) and will arrive at the email address you provided us with in your order.  We are usually able to send the invoice to you as soon as we receive your order, but if you placed your order at the end of the week, you may not receive your invoice until after the weekend.  If your invoice hasn't arrived yet, it could be that there was a spelling mistake in the email address that you gave us or that your spam or junk mail filter is blocking the invoice.  If you think this may be the problem, please send us an email and include your phone number so that we have another option of contacting you in case our emails aren't getting through.

Do you accept returns?

We can not accept returns on custom orders, because they were made to fit your unique measurements and may not suit another customer.  If you would like to return a ready made swimsuit purchased from the Swimshop, you can send it back to us as long as it was only tried on over undergarments and was never swam in.  Once you have sent it back, we check to make sure that it is still in a brand new, re-sellable condition.  We will then refund you for the swimsuit, minus a 15% restocking fee.  The best way to prevent needing to return a swimsuit, is to be careful which size you choose and maybe ordering a custom made if a few alterations will give you a better fit.  Please see the charts on our size charts page and compare them to your measurements to be sure you are ordering the correct size.  If you are unsure as to which size would be best, feel free to email me, and I will give you a recommendation as to which size would be best and if any alterations could be done to give you a better fit!

What if I don't want to send payment online?

We accept echecks or credit card payment through PayPal (and you won't need a PayPal account to do that!)  It is quick, easy and secure.  But if you still would rather not pay online, an International Money Order (made out to my name: Crystal Huyben) can be used to send payment.  I am sorry, but we can not accept personal checks!

What size is best for my measurements?

The best way to determine the size that will give you a good fit, is to compare your measurements to our size charts. (Please see our size charts page) Especially the size chart at the bottom of that page which shows the finished measurements of each size.  If you are still unsure as to which size would be best, feel free to email me, and I would be happy to give you a recommendation as to which size would be best and if any alterations could be done to give you a better fit!

If my fabric is less than 60" wide, will I need more fabric?

Yes, if your fabric is less than 60" wide you will need more fabric.  The fabric requirements shown on Patterns page, are for 60" wide fabric.  If your fabric is 58" wide you will need around 14" extra length for the Ladies' Sizes, 26" extra length for the Girl's Sizes, and 0" extra for the Children's Sizes.  (These measurements are just approximate, please purchase extra fabric if you are unsure.  It is better to have a little extra rather than not enough!)

Is it easy to adjust the lengths of the sleeves, skirt and leggings on the patterns?

Although there is no markings or instructions included in the pattern for lengthening the sleeves, skirt and leggings--they are very easy to adjust!  Just make them longer by continuing the lines down at the same angle.  You can easily cut them out as long, or as short as you would prefer!  (The standard lengths included in the pattern are 18" for the skirt and 25" for the leggings [measured from the waist, down].)

How soon can I expect the pattern I ordered to arrive?

Once we receive a pattern order, we are usually able to have it shipped out in a day or after we receive your order (except on weekends).  The patterns are shipped by Airmail shipping which takes around 4 to 10 business days to the USA.  We are located in Ontario, Canada.  If you need the pattern sooner than that, please email us with your order and request Xpress shipping (3 to 5 business days) or Purolator shipping (1 or 2 business days).

Is there a nursing or maternity option included in the pattern?

There is no maternity or nursing options included in the pattern and we don't currently offer a maternity pattern (though we hope to in the future!)  We do offer our custom made swimsuits altered for maternity (the prices are the same as plus size swimsuits).  If you would like to order a maternity custom made swimsuit, please click here and let us know in the 'Notes' section that you are ordering a maternity swimsuit.

Note:  We currently do not offer nursing options on our custom made swimsuits.  We have had customers tell us that these swimsuits worked very well for nursing discreetly at the pool side!  Since the leggings are made separate from the skirt and bodice, they were able to easily nurse underneath the skirt.

Can I trace the patterns to use it to make different sizes?

Yes, these are multi size patterns so feel free to trace the different sizes out that are included in the patterns, so that you will be able to make each size without cutting into your original pattern.  The patterns may only be traced by hand, one size at a time.  (These patterns are for individual home use only and cannot be used for making swimsuits to sell.   No part of the patterns may be reproduced or transmitted in any form or by any means electronic or mechanical including photocopying, or by any information storage and retrieval system, or used for commercial or manufacturing purposes.)

Do you sell the leggings separately?

Yes, we do sell the leggings separately in solid or floral fabrics!  To order, please fill out the form on our Custom Made Swimsuits page and specify in the Notes section that you are ordering only the leggings.  The price is $35 for ladies' sizes, $30 for girl's sizes, and $25 for children's sizes (if ordering leggings longer than 25", $3 extra will be charged).  These leggings work great for wearing under skirts as well for modesty while exercizing, playing sports or climbing trees!  :)
